Meeting new people, traveling, reading, seeing new things, listening to others opinions, having new experiences. These are what I like to do in my spare time, therefore, it was only natural that I would be drawn to management specializing in Marketing & Sales, and Tourism & Project Management as my Bachelors and Masters degree respectively.
After spending over four (4) years studying Law in Cuba I returned to my Caribbean island home Barbados, unsure of where my passion lied. Speaking Spanish fluently I thought of studying Linguistics but wasn’t interested , studied Law for one semester and was bored. Business Management was interesting and the art of marketing a business or idea became my new passion. It allowed me to be creative and strategic. Having lived in Cuba with persons from all over the world I had a new appreciation for life and other cultures, their history, foods and languages, so it was no surprise to anyone when I decided to study Tourism for my Masters degree, as it was instilled in me from young as a Barbadian that, “Tourism is our business, let’s play our part”.
This blog is meant to not only focus on the challenges faced by the tourism industry from a scholarly point of view, it is also meant to chronicle my experiences as a tourist in Jamaica, a native of Barbados and traveler of the world. It will touch on issues such as sustainable tourism, ecotourism, medical tourism, sports tourism, what experiences I have had in Jamaica after moving here this year (March 2017) and my experiences working in the tourism industry of Barbados.
What have your experiences in the Caribbean been like as a tourist? Did you enjoy your visits? Share your photos and stories with us ….
